PERE SOTO & DJANGO’S CASTLE / GIULIA VALLE GROUP

AFTERWARDS IN THE CAFÉ: DJ ALVIZ

Two bands from Barcelona will prove how richly diverse the contemporary jazz culture is in the Catalan capital. The double concert starts with gypsy jazz of the highest level. Django’s Castle is the acoustic trio of the acclaimed jazz guitarist and composer Pere Soto. In Amsterdam he has recorded a CD with Arjen Gorter and John Engels, and in New York he has played with among others Dave Douglas and Jeff Ballard.

After the break Guilia Valle will make het Bimhuis debut. The Italian-born double bassist made her breakthrough in New York. Jazz Journal praises her ‘darkly lyrical sound’, draws comparisons with Charlie Haden and tips her new band as ‘one of best contemporary jazz groups in Europe’.

Afterwards at the cafe: DJ Alviz

The Bimhuis restaurant
is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via
020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free
entrance).
