PAUL BLEY SOLO

in collaboration with VPRO Radio

Paul Bley-piano

Bimhuiscard holders are required to pay an € 4 surcharge. Paul Bley is the second revolutionary jazz pianist playing solo at the Bimhuis this month, after Muhal Richard Abrams. Bley founded the melodic, almost classical style of improvisation that made Keith Jarrett and Brad Mehldau famous. Since the 1960s his calm solo work contrasts with his busy career; he played bebop with Sonny Rollins, free jazz with Albert Ayler and he experimented with the first Moog synthesizers. ‘Unafraid of silence, Mr. Bley finds ways to make it swing’ (New York Times). Bimhuiscard holders are required to pay an € 4 surcharge.
