OXYMORE QUINTET
Oene van Geel-violin, Guillaume Orti-sax, Harmen Fraanje-piano, Mark Haanstra-bass, Chander Sardjoe-drums
Jazz, funk and rock coalesce in the improvisations of the Oxymore Quintet, the new group of bass virtuoso Mark Haanstra. Oxymore’s debut album includes compositions by each of the members, rounded out with a cover of a Radiohead song. With their tight, melodic ensemble, violinist Oene van Geel and saxophonist Guillaume Orti have found their milieu. The rock-like staccato chords of pianist Harmen Fraanje form an exciting counterbalance to the non-Western rhythms provided by drummer Chander Sardjoe.
