Norwegian jazz in its prime: luminaries and rising stars form this super band on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Oslo Jazz Festival.
This summer the Oslo Jazz Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary and one of the top acts can already be heard at the Bimhuis, a new super band featuring luminaries from Norwegian jazz. Mathias Eick, Trygve Seim, Jon Balke, Gard Nilssen and Ellen Andrea Wang have each made name for themselves in international jazz, live as well as with recordings on renowned Scandinavian labels such as ECM, Jazzland and Rune Grammofon. Crossing the generational gap, they will perform new compositions written especially for this project.
Nestor of the band is pianist Jon Balke, a driving force of Norwegian jazz since the 1970s. Youngest member is double bassist and vocalist Ellen Andrea Wang. Drummer Gard Nilssen recently played the Bimhuis with Bushman’s Revenge. And both trumpeter Mathias Eick and saxophonist Trygve Seim are famous for their impressive releases on ECM.
Ellen Andrea Wang also sings and plays in the support act Pixel, a young band combining love for pop and indie rock with flexible jazz arrangements. Their recent album Golden Years appeared on the label Cuneiform Records.
