Orchestra Nazionale della Luna

IKONEN / BOISSEAU / HERMIA / VERBRUGGEN

Jazz with an extraterrestrial vibe by four skyrocketing musicians. ‘The music radiates pleasure and the chemistry netween the members in obviously right’ (Jazz’halo).

They call themselves one of the most important orcehstras on the moon and they might be right. Even here on earth these ‘lunatics’ are known for their original repertory and their energetic ensemble playing.

The foursome is led by Finnish jazz pianist, moog-sorcerer and composer Kari Ikonen, who has studied Indian and Arabic music. He has explored higher regions with the UMO Jazz Orchestra and Louis Sclavis. Alongside French bassist Sébastien Boisseau the group consists of saxophonist Manuel Hermia and drummer Teun Verbruggen, important players in Belgian jazz.

‘Serious ballads and calm compositions slide between pieces full of action, creating a real arc of tension. Teun Verbruggen generates a constant stream of ideas, invigorating the other players. In moments they all seem to be willing to move heaven and earth together. As a collaboration this is absolutely worth the attention, because The music radiates pleasure and the chemistry between the members is so obviously right’ (Jazz’halo).
