OMAR SOSA TRIO
Omar Sosa-piano, Anga Diaz-percussion, Houssaine Kili-vocals, guembri
The marriage of jazz and Cuban music (New World cousins related to African ancestry) has given birth to some of the most intoxicating music of the past 50 years. One of the leading ambassadors of this new Cuban sound, Omar Sosa, adds in his brillant compositions some spicy ingredients to this blend, like ritual singing of the West African Yoruba, folk music from Ecuador and hip-hop. Being an outstanding pianist, Sosa does not manifest himself as a macho virtuoso like many Latin pianists, but he plays with a Monk-like sober and delicate precision.
