OMAR SOSA TRIO

In Latin jazz, Afro Cuban rhythms go well together with the harmonies and improvisation of jazz. Omar Sosa, a new star in this field, adds some spicy ingredients to this mixture in his brilliant compositions like ritual songs of the West African Yoruba, folk music from Ecuador and hip hop. This results in a ‘rootsy’ sound but Sosa doesn’t manifest himself as a macho virtuoso pianist like many Latin players do, he performs with a Monk like, sober clarity.
