The most important award for jazz and improvised music in The Netherlands, the VPRO/Boy Edgar Award, was handed over this year to alto violinist Oene van Geel, a ‘musical adventurer who inspires because of his great eagerness’ (NRC). Due to popular demand he once again has carte blanche at the Bimhuis. Van Geel presents a program as versatile as himself, with fantastic musicians from jazz as well as classical and non-Western music. His band The Nordanians extended, renowned for its ‘rich, funky combination of Indian and western rhythms’, welcomes guests who are leading in their fields: soprano Nora Fischer and saxophonist Theo Loevendie.
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
