Following her successful tribute to Eva Cassidy, Margriet Sjoerdsma returns with Northern Lights. A three month stay in Norway resulted in a treasure trove of new songs. Their themes are both personal and universal: family, roots, compassion, letting go and, above all, forgiveness. The songs came to life in an overwhelming Scandinavian landscape, where nature still rules, and silence can be deafening.
Northern Lights, which won the Edison Publieksprijs 2021, will be performed by renowned jazz players in an orchestral line-up. Expect adventurous arrangements with exciting harmonic dimensions, and melancholic melodies with unexpected twists and turns. Singer-songwriter Sjoerdsma presented her debut album as Odelion in 2019. It was produced by Tobias Fröberg, who previously collaborated with Scandinavian artists such as Ane Brun. The Odelion Orchestra is its sequel.
