The documentary O Mistério do Samba is set in the Oswaldo Cruz district in Rio de Janeiro, where the samba school Portela was founded in 1923. The film focuses on a group of veteran musicians from Portela and features celebrities like Marisa Monte, Paulinho da Viola and Zeca Pagodinho. After the film the stage will be cleared for a traditional ‘roda’, in which musicians and singers challenge one another around a table. Twenty international musicians will participate, led by guitarist Nelson Latif.
