In our new series DATSKAT we mix jazz with hip-hop and (neo)soul. Our stage is given to the established and new generation of artists who represent this sound. This edition features the new collaboration between singer Ntjam Rosie and the band SMANDEM.
Ntjam Rosie’s second album ELLE opened many doors for her. With her singular vision on jazz and soul, the singer celebrated great success in the past decade. It allowed her to collaborate with the Metropole Orchestra, Sinfonia Rotterdam, Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, and many major artists from Dutch jazz. Now she looks back on ELLE from a fresh perspective together with SMANDEM., the internationally renowned band from Amsterdam.
For the project ELLE (Reworked), Ntjam decided to update and recontextualize a selection of songs from ELLE together with SMANDEM. How would these songs resonate through the ears of the new generation? The result is simultaneously energetic and mellow, rugged and soft. The EP ELLE (Reworked) will be released this spring on Gentle Daze Records/o-tone music. It is the tenth official release by Ntjam Rosie.
After the concert, DJ Lucas Benjamin will play in our café. Starting out as a hip-hop dancer, he is now a connaisseur who takes you with him into the warm world of soul, jazz, funk, hip-hop and more. He is not limited to one era, playing gems from the 70s and the present.
