NIK BÄRTSCH’S RONIN

23:00 AFTERPARTY AFTER DARK (i.c.w. Subbacultcha)
Nik Bärtsch composition/piano/Fender Rhodes, Sha bass clarinets, Björn Meyer bass, Kaspar Rast drums, Andi Pupato percussion

‘Zen-funk’, is how composer and pianist Nik Bärtsch from Zürich describes the music of his group Ronin. The quintet plays minimal music with the accurate timing of funk and the serenity of Japanese ritual music. The ensemble was founded in 2001 and named after a distinct class of samurai warriors. ‘Spidery, clockwork jazz funk… crisp Swiss perfection’ (The Wire).
