NIK BÄRTSCH’S RONIN
Nik Bärtsch-piano, fender rhodes, Sha-(contra-)bass clarinet, Blorn Meyer-bass, Kaspar Rast-drums, Andi Pupato-percussion
Since 2001, Ronin explores the three dimensions of sound and timbre. Cinematic soundscapes, sometimes leaning towards quiet, minimal music, then suddenly shifting to meticulously timed precision funk. Nik Bärtsch (1971) describes his intentions: ‘A band should mature into an integral organism – then it’s alive, like an animal, a biotope, an urban space. It creates overtones, blossoms, ghost notes, spectral sounds, flights of perspective. (…) Pieces are spaces to be entered and inhabited.’
