All Ellington is a grandiose sequel to the eponymous concert series at Zaal 100, dedicated to one of the greatest American composers of all time. Like the orchestra of Duke Ellington himself, this group is composed of very different musicians who each have their own vocabulary and a unique style of playing and improvising.
Duke Ellington is not only the famous pianist and composer of timeless classics such as It Don’t Mean a Thing and In a Sentimental Mood, but also a groundbreaking band leader who gave jazz a new look. Ellington wrote over a thousand pieces of music and many associate him with the great classical composers.
For this concert an ensemble is formed by leading musicians in the Amsterdam music scene. They will project their own vision on Ellington’s music, continuing on the experimental role fulfilled by Zaal 100 in the Amsterdam music scene.
Afterwards at the cafe: DJ plutones.
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
