Nicholas Payton is one of the great trumpet players from New Orleans. Like his master and fellow townsman Wynton Marsalis he has a great knowledge of traditional jazz from the Louis Armstrong era. Payton’s album Sonic Trance was a surprising venture into electric funk jazz territory previously discovered by Miles Davis.
