As a cello player, Ernst Reijseger is in a class of his own, famous for his exceptional playing which brings together classical music, jazz and folk. He is an improviser pur sang, an inspiring band leader and an imaginative composer, currently for the films of director Werner Herzog. His one-off concert with the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra from 2012 will now have its glorious follow-up.
‘Reijseger is a full-blooded improviser’, wrote de Volkskrant after that first show. ‘He stirs up the orchestra, lets musicians spar against each other and deliberately causes friction, making the concert more interesting.’
Like Reijseger, the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra tends to move swiftly between various styles and genres. The current line-up, featuring important band leader from contemporary Dutch jazz, maintains a high energy level. ‘The New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra is fresh, elastic and entertaining’ (de Volkskrant).
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
