Nature Work: Greg Ward, Jim Black, Eric Revis, Jason Stein

Jason Stein bass clarinet, Greg Ward alto saxophone, Jim Black drums, Eric Revis bass

This spring sees the release of the debut album by this new supergroup and the first clips on YouTube are convincing in every way: imaginative, fluid themes by the founders of the group, alto saxophonist Greg Ward and bass clarinetist Jason Stein, and boneshaking grooves by a first-class rhythm section, double bassist Eric Revis and drummer Jim Black.

Greg Ward is respected as a saxophonist and composer working with many jazz bands in New York and Chicago, as well as rapper Lupe Fiasco and post-rock band Tortoise. Jason Stein also dares to look beyond the jazz scene; he toured with his famous sister, comedian Amy Schumer, proving that jazz improvisation can actually make the crossover to a wide audience. Greg and Jason have previously performed together at the BIMHUIS in noted Chicago bands led by Mike Reed and Jason Roebke. Jason Stein played here as part of Joshua Abrams Natural Information Society.

The band is completed by two musicians who have an excellent reputation at the BIMHUIS: Eric Revis (Branford Marsalis Quartet, Kurt Rosenwinkel Standards Trio) and Jim Black (Malamute, AlasNoAxis, Human Feel).
