NATE WOOLEY QUINTET

Nate Wooley trompet, Josh Sinton basklarinet, Matt Moran vibrafoon, Eivind Opsvik bas, Harris Eisenstadt drums

Trumpet player Nate Wooley is being hailed for his daring innovative
spirit. ‘Wooley continues to push the limit of the trumpet as a sound
generator’ (The Wire).

This year saw the release of no less than
two Nate Wooley albums, Seven Storey Mountain V and Argonautica. The
first album is strongly influenced by the adventurers among the American
composers and writers of the 20th century, the second by the pioneers
of jazz rock. His own quintet also sheds new light on American history,
in particular the development of bop and jazz from the 1960s to 80s. In
this context Wooley dares to experiment and push the boundaries of his
trumpet playing.

Nate Wooley is considered a contemporary
innovator of the trumpet, an adventurous musician fascinated by jazz as
well as radical improvisation and avant-garde composition. He became a
professional player at 13 and in 2001 he moved from Oregon to New York.
As one of the most outstanding trumpet players of the adventurous
Brooklyn scene he regularly performed with icons such as John Zorn,
Anthony Braxton and Fred Frith.
