MUHAL RICHARD ABRAMS SOLO
Muhal Richard Abrams-piano
Muhal Richard Abrams educated a generation of jazz greats, including Anthony Braxton and Roscoe Mitchell. Since 1965 the pianist and band leader has been a driving force behind AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians), a group of revolutionary musicians who turned their backs on smoky nightclubs and organised live shows at lofts and theatres in Chicago and, later, New York. Abrams has a varied oeuvre, from duos to colourful big band music. His solo performances capture the essence of his art. ‘A free array of Black and European idioms, everything from stride to serialism, deployed within an intensely rhythmic framework’ (Penguin Guide to Jazz).
