Piano player Michiel Scheen is back on the block after a time-out of three years, and that is very good news. In the past, his highly recognizable style had a somewhat serious and academic approach, but now a more graceful and associative line prevails. The all-star line-up makes him able to play with the tempo in ‘a kind of polyphonic, multisubjective swing, strongly inspired by the ‘powerful and posessed work’ of Thelonious Monk.
