MOSTLY OTHER PEOPLE DO THE KILLING

+ DJ ZEA

Jon Irabagon sax, Peter Evans trompet, Moppa Elliott bas, Kevin Shea drums

New York band Mostly Other People Do The Killing (MOPDTK), voted Rising Star Ensemble by Downbeat, consciously turns traditional jazz upside down. ‘Jazz is funny’, according to bassist/composer Moppa Elliott; consequently, eccentric ensembles like ICP and Sex Mob are his great examples. After traditional jazz and free jazz these four rising stars play around with the clichés of smooth jazz from the 1970s and 80s on their new CD Slippery Rock. ‘All four of them seem to have the whole history of jazz at their fingertips… and yet the music always feels organic’ (Cadence).
