MORGENLAND FESTIVAL: MORGENLAND ALL STAR BAND
Saturday18 July 2015

This summer the Morgenland Festival will come to the Bimhuis for the
first time. Since 2005 the festival presents the best musicians from
the Near- and Middle East, from traditional and classical music to
avant-garde, jazz and rock in Osnabrück (Germany).
During the
three-day programme in Amsterdam Morgenland bares its soul, with
remarkable cross-pollinations that originated during the previous
editions of the festival.

This all-star band represents everything the Morgenland Festival stands for: excellence, geographical reach and musical wealth, from traditional Kurdish sounds to Uyghur funk-rock. Closing Party met international DJ Ipek.

These musicians from the Near- and Middle East have been meeting each other for years at the Morgenland Festival in Osnabrück. Their Morgenland All Star Ensemble is not just a temporary formation, but a group that brings out the best in each musician.

The ensemble features among others the Uyghur singer and guitarist Perhat Khaliq, a rising star in China. Lebanese percussionist Rony Barrak has a vibrant presence on stage and could be heard alongside Fairuz, Vanessa-Mae and Sarah Brightman. Moslem Rahal is an internationally renowned master of the ney, the predecessor of the modern flute. He’s regularly performing with, among others, Jordi Savall’s ensemble Hespèrion XXI.

After the concert several musicians will perform with DJ Ipek. This Istanbul-Berlin based dj is internationally active mixing genres such as FolkElektroFusion and Gypsy Funk with break beats, pop, house and minimal.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).

Passepartout for the complete Morgenland Festival on July 16, 17 and 18 is available here (standing places only, € 49,50).
