Rising star of Persian music, renowned for his breathtaking vocal embellishments, accompanied by traditional Persian instruments. Concert in collaboration with Flamenco Biennale.
Persian poetry is an inexhaustible source for classic Iranian song lyrics. The deep, flexible voice of singer is the ideal instrument for these songs. Motamedi is a great name in the Iranian vocal world, known as a prime performer of tahrir, the elegant ‘yodeling technique’. After he won the Prix France Musique in 2013 he became an international rising star. ‘Motemadi’s music shines with the love for Persian poetry’, said the jury.
With his breathtaking laments he explores the depths of the ‘radif’, the classical Persian music repertory. Like a vocal tightrope walker, he weaves subtle innovations through the tradition. Accompanied by a young ensemble with traditional instruments, Motamedi brings ancient improvised music to new heights.
‘Every singer is a witness of his culture and history. I strive to be a good link to the chain we call tradition’ (Mohammad Motamedi).
Mohammad Motamedi visited Bimhuis in 2011 as a duo with the young singer Rosario ‘La Tremendita’ by invitation of the Flamenco Biennale. Now he will perform with his quartet as part of the Flamenco Biennal Intermezzo. This series is organized in the intermediate years between Biennial editions, this year in anticipation of the sixth edition of the festival which will take place at the end of January, 2017.
