Rising stars, who have just finished Conservatorium van Amsterdam, shine in two bands that will perform back to back at the BIMHUIS. Anna Serierse and Gijs Idema bring together vocals and guitar in new, fluent ways, supported by the solid rhythm section of Cas Jiskoot on double bass and Tim Hennekes on drums. Their quartet is a unity, with a strong feel for freedom, melody, rhythm and form. Several days after this concert they will hit the studio to record their debut album. At the BIMHUIS they will present original compositions written by Anna and Gijs while studying abroad. You can hear the calm and serenity of Trondheim, but also the hustle and bustle of New York.
After the break: Alto saxophonist Mo van der Does is praised by his famous colleague Benjamin Herman: ‘Plays like a devil, this guy is full of fire’, says the leader of New Cool Collective. Recently the album Common Myths was released on Fattoria Musica Records. The young Mo van der Does Quartet performs the narrative compositions of its leader, driven by improvisation and interaction. Mo van der Does previously played at the BIMHUIS as part of All Ellington and Peter Beets & Henk Meutgeert New Jazz Orchestra.
