Ghost bands, dedicated to the inheritance of deceased band leaders, usually don’t survive too long. But the Mingus Dynasty is an exception, ‘(…) the as solid as flexible playing group performed timeless masterpieces like Pithecanthropus Erectus, Peggy’s Blue Skylight and the irresistible gospel swinger Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting sounding as urgent and vital as they sounded on the day they were written. (de Volkskrant about the previous Bimhuis concert of the Mingus Dynasty). This powerful septet contains the ardent saxophonists Escoffery and Handy and the highly original trombone player Ku-umba Frank Lacy, a personality the way Mingus liked them in his bands.
