MINGUS DYNASTY

Ku-umba Frank Lacy-trombone, Alex ‘Sasha’ Sipiagin-trumpet, Craig Handy-tenor sax, Wayne Escoffery-tenor sax, Orrin Evans-piano, Boris Kozlov-bass, Donald Edwards-drums

Ghost bands, dedicated to the inheritance of deceased band leaders, usually don’t survive too long. But the Mingus Dynasty is an exception, ‘(…) the solid and just as flexible group performed timeless masterpieces such as Pithecanthropus Erectus, Peggy’s Blue Skylight and the irresistible gospel swinger Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting sounding as urgent and vital as they did on the day they were written. (de Volkskrant about Mingus Dynasty’s previous Bimhuis concert). This powerful septet contains the fervent saxophonists Escoffery and Handy and the highly original trombone player Ku-umba Frank Lacy, the kinds of strong personalities Mingus always used to like in his bands. Bimhuiscard holders are required to pay an € 2 surcharge.
