Millennium Jazz Orchestra ft. Lilian Vieira: ‘O Verde Do Brasil’, Bleeding Amazonia

The Millennium Jazz Orchestra
Joan Reinders director/composer/arranger

Lilían Vieira vocals

Dutch-Brazilian singer Lilian Vieira appears as the special guest of The Millennium Jazz Orchestra, the big band led by Joan Reinders. The music, poetry and nature of Brazil are the focus of this concert, featuring a brand new composition alongside well-known Brazilian songs. Big band jazz blends with bossa nova, salsa and other Brazilian styles, which will have you on your feet.

The concert opens with Bleeding Amazonia, dedicated to the Amazon rainforest. Joan Reinders composed this five-part suite based on words by poet and activist Thiago de Mello (1926), who is from the Amazon region and who has committed himself to the conservation of the rainforest for decades. After the intermission, the orchestra will play music by great Brazilian songwriters such as Milton Nascimento, Gilberto Gil, and Caetano Veloso. All songs are arranged by Joan Reinders, with a central role for Lilian Vieira, who’s known from the Brazilectro band Zuco 103.

‘Vieira immediately convinces everybody with her warm, charming stage presence’ (NRC).

‘The sounds and repertory of the Millennium Jazz Orchestra are unique within the big band world’ (Jazzenzo).
