The annual Young VIPs Tour, for which Dutch jazz venues have selected national rising stars, will be represented at the Bimhuis with two concerts. The first concert, featuring the Miguel Rodríguez Quintet, will take place on Saturday 8 February. The second concert, featuring the band Windkracht 7, is on Sunday 9 February. As of March 7 both bands will be touring throughout The Netherlands.

The young Amsterdam based pianist Miguel Rodríguez could be heard in the bands of Benjamin Herman and Ben van den Dungen. He’s an accomplished jazz pianist, as well as one of the very few flamenco pianists. With his quintet he has developed his own style, combining improvisation, flamenco and latin not as separate traditions but as a unique hybrid.

Miguel Rodríguez was born in Madrid and his quintet also consists of mainly Spanish musicians who have established themselves in The Netherlands. The band started as a trio with double bassist Luciano Poli and drummer Francesco de Rubeis. They were soon joined by flamenco singer Maria Marin and percussionist Miguel Hiroshi. In 2013 the debut album of this group was released.

‘A confident debut from a musician with his own clear sound, Miguel Rodríguez is well worth checking out’ (Tokyo Jazz Notes).

Afterwards DJ at the café.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
