MICROSCOPIC SEPTET

Phillip Johnston, Joel Forrester, Don Davis, Paul Shapiro, Dave Sewelson, David Hofstra, Richard Dworkin

Microscopic Septet, ‘New York’s Most Famous Unknown Band’, founded by Phillip Johnston has been musically active for 12 years. ‘The Micros’ played ‘surrealistic swing’, from Ellington to Ayler, from bebop to Zorn, from Dixieland to experimental. The occasion of the re-release of their, by now classic, albums, Johnston decided to do a one-off reunion tour. ‘As clever as the Beatles, as subversive as Captain Beefheart, as antic as Spike Jones.’ (Newsday).
