MICHIEL BRAAM’S NOPERA

Lucia Meeuwsen, Vera Westera, Sean Bergin-vocals, Zapp String Quartet: Jasper le Clercq-violin, Friedmar Hitzer-violin, Oene van Geel-viola, Jorg Brinkmann-cello, Trio BraamDeJoodeVatcher: Michiel Braam-piano, composition, Wilbert de Joode-bass, Michael Vatcher-drums

Improvising with a large ensemble is a risky enterprise but since many years Michiel Braam has been doing this successfully with his Bik Bent. Within the context of the music theatre or opera this almost never takes place, but it will happen now. Like with the orchestra, the compositions are the building stones of the total that permanently changes its form. They can be heard in whispers, slow or loud and performed with great intensity, shifting to improvisation, cut off or skipped. The audience will not be offered a set program but the creation of a music play, with the tension, struggle and joy that goes along with it.
