KONING & BRAAM / PENGUINS TOO

Annelie Koning vocals, Michiel Braam piano, Frank Nielander tenor sax

This show is streamed live on BIMHUIS TV and can be followed on YouTube and Facebook.

Since the eighties, Michiel Braam has led influential bands such as Bik Bent Braam, with which he zaps between various genres and for which he has written many compositions. With vocal phenomenon Annelie Koning he forms a duo that improvises with poetry from Bredero to Bukowski. Koning switches between recitation, narration and singing, and Braam reacts to that with energetic results. Annelie Koning previously played at the BIMHUIS with her group Lilly King.

Michiel Braam forms the duo Penguins Too with saxophonist Frank Nielander, with whom he has been working together for years in various formations. First they played bop and cool jazz under the name Two Penguins in the Desert. Currently the duo includes soundtrack music from crime movies and series such as Narcos, La Piovra (Ennio Morricone) and Anatomy of a Murder (Duke Ellington). Frank Nielander has previously played jazz and film music in I Compani, but also pop as a guest musician with Lionel Richie and Gino Vannelli.
