The relative ease with which Ronnie Cuber conjures melody and lyricism from his baritone saxophone makes one forget how much power is needed to play this huge instrument in a flexible way. Cuber has played with the greats of jazz, Latin, blues, soul, folk and rock, among them Lionel Hampton, Eddie Palmieri, B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon and Frank Zappa. On his solo records he excels in straight ahead swing. Tonight the Bimhuis cafe-restaurant will be serving a buffet menu instead of its usual a-la-carte menu (€ 15, from 18.30).
