METROPOLE ORCHESTRA BIG BAND & BERT JORIS
8.15pm Introduction by Vince Mendoza en John Marshall: ‘About Miles and Trane’.
The Metropole Big Band plays compositions by John Coltrane, Miles Davis, The Brecker Brothers and band leader Vince Mendoza. Mendoza studied composition and is a successful arranger for artists like Björk and Joni Mitchell. On this concert night, Miles Davis will be honored with ‘Dewey’, written by The Yellowjackets. Guest soloist is the Belgian trumpet player/composer Bert Joris of which we can find three compositions on this program. ‘Mainly birds, with a slight preference for pigeons’ are the source of inspiration for this acclaimed trumpeter. Bart van Lier, 1st trombonist of the Metropole Orkest and teaching at the music conservatories of Hilversum and Rotterdam will do a reading beforehand: ‘About Miles and Trane’.
