Singular Brazilian band ignites the fire with psychedelic samba, afro beat and raw electric jazz. ‘Metá Metá are intent on shattering images of Brazilian music’ (The Wire).

The five musicians of Metá Metá are called the ‘inventors of the new music scene in Brazil’ by legendary afro beat drummer Tony Allen, who plays on their recent album MetaL MetaL. The innovative band from São Paulo plays a raw mix of styles reminiscent of afro beat, as well as samba, jazz and psychedelic music. Singer Juçara Marçal, saxophonist Thiago França and guitarist Kiko Dinucci form the core of the group. Metá Metá’s exciting sound is as much related to Brazilian music as to the jazz of John Coltrane or the electric guitars of The Stooges and Sonic Youth.

‘The band constantly change direction, from easygoing dance passages and rippling, African-influenced guitar work through to sudden waves of sound, with cool but dominant vocals matched against furious passages of jazz saxophone and percussion’ (The Guardian).
