Matthias Schriefl is an excellent trumpet and bugle player as well as a band leader with flair. At the age of 11 he had already led a big band. He has been playing in such well-established orchestras, as the WDR Big Band and European Jazz Ensemble, since the age of fifteen. He plays his own compositions, with his band Shreefpunk in which raucous, jagged sounds are interchanged with romantic passages. ‘It’s got galloping Keystone Cops horns, heavy guitar-rock monster sounds, nursery-school vocals, raucous waltzes, farmyard noises and oompah music’ (Guardian).
