This Norwegian double bill will be kicked off by young sax and piano duo Albatrosh, which blends melodic compositions with challenging improvisations. Albatrosh has won the EBU Competition at North Sea Jazz and releases CDs on the innovative label Rune Grammofon. Trumpet player Mathias Eick became known with the alternative big band Jaga Jazzist. With his velvety tone and carefully placed notes he positions himself in the lineage of Nils Petter Molvaer, Arve Henriksen and Miles Davis in his electric era. ‘His silky, unbrasslike sound is ideally suited to this undulating groove-landscape’ (Guardian).
