MARY HALVORSON TRIO
Mary Halvorson-guitar, John Hebert-bass, Ches Smith-drums
Mary Halvorson is not primarily interested in traditional jazz guitar playing; she prefers to create her own style that has much more in common with the compositions of her master Anthony Braxton and such avant-garde punk of bands as Deerhoof. Her bright, complex melody lines are supported by bass player John Hebert (Andrew Hill) and drummer Ches Smith (Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog). Last year saw the release of their CD Dragon’s Head. ‘More than an auspicious debut, it is among this year’s standout jazz albums and one of the more original recent statements by any jazz guitarist’ (New York Times).
