Amsterdam based pianist, composer and band leader Martin Fondse understands that Stravinsky had as much swing as the great stars of jazz. His Starvinsky Orkestar is big band and classical ensemble at the same time. Aside from the usual wind and bowed instruments this ‘pan-European flex orchestra’ frequently uses exotic objects like stamps, spin-tops and melodicas. The twelve members, including musicians such as Claudio Puntin and Eric van der Westen, perform Fondse’s energetic, hybrid compositions at Bimhuis every three months.
