MARILYN CRISPELL TRIO
Marilyn Crispell-piano, Vincent Courtois-cello, Michele Rabbia-drums
Shifting Grace is the name of the album which the American pianist Marilyn Crispell released last year with French cellist Vincent Courtois and Italian drummer Michele Rabbia. The phenomenal Crispell had been a member of the legendary Anthony Braxton Quartet, for ten years together with Mark Dresser and Gerry Hemmingway. She performs solo, fronts her own groups and works together with such musicians as Reggie Workman, Barry Guy and Henry Grimes. ‘Hearing Marilyn Crispell play is like monitoring an active volcano. She is one of a very few pianists who rise to the challenge of free jazz.’ (The New York Times). Courtois has played in the Bimhuis before in a duo with Louis Sclavis and trio with Sylvie Courvoisier and Ellery Eskelin. Rabbia is best known for his work with groups by the pianist/composer Stefano Battaglia and Aires Tango band, set up by Argentinean saxophonist Javier Girotto.
