MARI BOINE

Mari Boine-vocals, Georg Buljo-guitar, Svein Schultz-bass, Ole Joern Myklebust-trumpet, Gunnar Augland-drums

World famous Norwegian folk singer Mari Boine adds jazz and rock elements to Joik. This trance-like song tradition is considered one of the oldest musical forms in Europe. Boine is very engaged with the social situation of her people, the Sami, a minority in Scandinavia which is often a target of discrimination. Boine has cooperated with like-minded musicians, including saxophone player Jan Garbarek and Russian multi-instrumentalist Sergei Starostin.
