Marc Sinan & Oğuz Büyükberber present White + Giuseppe Doronzo Solo
Giuseppe Doronzo solo baritone sax
Oğuz Büyükberber clarinet, Marc Sinan guitar
Guitarist Marc Sinan and (bass) clarinet player Oğuz Büyükberber first met each other ten years ago in Istanbul and have become regular collaborators, which is obvious from the sound of their first duo album for ECM Records. Marc was classically trained in the Western tradition while Oğuz has developed himself in the direction of improvised music, for example in the Amsterdam-based group All Ellington. They find common ground in their shared Turkish background, also in the balanced new music on White, which includes a composition dedicated to the Armenian Prisoners of War in World War I. This piece incorporates field recordings of these prisoners singing folk songs. White garnered great acclaim in the international press.
This year, Giuseppe Doronzo presented his solo first album for baritone sax entitled Goya, on which he explores every side of the instrument in all kinds of forms, from detailed abstract works to ‘captivating music that wins you over with its generous, bucolic atmosphere’, according to Enola.be. ‘An artist who knows how to tell a good story and who adds moments of poetry and emotion to his impressive technique.’ Also premiere of the eponymous film Goya by Roman Ermolaev.
