MALCOLM BRAFF TRIO/PLAISTOW
The piano trio is an important source of innovation in contemporary jazz, as proven by these Swiss examples. The playing of Malcolm Braff reflects the broad African landscape in which he grew up. His trio adds a firm groove. Minimal music and electronica influence Plaistow’s intricate spacious acoustic music , which takes its name from a track by Squarepusher. ‘While Plaistow play with the most conventional of means – piano, bass, drums rather than laptops – they do so in quite new and original ways. Post-jazz.’ (Brian Morton, The Wire).
