Han Bennink: ‘I bring a box to the MMDC. A box full of surprises, Pandora’s box. It is a big cardboard box that is on stage during a performance. It is in the spotlight so Ellen Knops determines its position. There are objects (hidden) in the box, for the dancers. For example a bolt of rope, a ceramic garden gnome, a broom, a piece of wallpaper, cymbals, logs of wood, things like that. The concept of the box stays the same; which means, it can be renewed during the performance, the objects vary but the box stays. For the dancers the contents of the box are a sort of objet-trouvées, lost and found. Because the objects change, the instrumentation of the musicians change as well.’
