LULA PENA (SOLO)

Portuguese singer and guitarist Lula Pena has achieved a cult status with her haunting ‘phado’, a unique style bordering on chansons, blues, flamenco and fado.

This month Lula Pena’s new album Archivo Pittoresco will be released on Crammed Discs and this is a special event: since 1998 only two albums have been released by this introverted singer and guitarist from Portugal. Despite this sparse discography she has gathered a stream of devoted followers, a kind of secret society whose ranks continue to grow. With her haunting voice, her unique acoustic guitar playing and her narrative songs she has developed a style that is completely her own. Her singular music borders on ‘phado’, as she likes spell it, as well as chansons, blues, flamenco and bossa nova.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
