LUIS PERDOMO TRIO
AFTERWARDS IN THE CAFÉ: DJ JAIRZINHO
Luis Perdomo piano, Reggie Washington bas, Louis Moutin drums
Luis Perdomo has learned to play piano listening to the records of his father, who collected salsa, classical and blues alongside jazz pianists such as Bud Powell and Oscar Peterson. ‘It’s all music’, says Luis, who moved from Venezuela to New York, where he made name as a sideman with Ravi Coltrane and Miguel Zenón. His own music is highly recommended for those who enjoy adventurous piano playing in the vein of Keith Jarrett and McCoy Tyner; Luis has not coincidentally collaborated with their drummer Jack DeJohnette. ‘He plays with exploratory urgency, and his compositions take unforced yet unexpected turns’ (New York Times).
