LUCAS NIGGLI’S BIG ZOOM

Swiss drummer Lucas Niggli (born in West Cameroon) is a restless explorer of musical worlds. He performed work by Mauricio Kagel and John Cage, free improvised and everything in between, in a duo with Butch Morris, Fred Frith, Tom Cora, Ikue Mori and many others. Since 1999 he has been recording and touring with his own band Zoom, a trio that he occasionally expands to a quintet with two horn players. Niggli: ‘Big Zoom remains a jazz combo, a chamber music ensemble, and a rock band, even as a quintet. (…) The group makes a bow to tradition here and jumps into the unknown there’.
