In the mid-1950s Lou Donaldson formed the frontline of the first incarnation of The Jazz Messengers with Clifford Brown. Since then the alto saxophonist recorded countless albums for the legendary Blue Note label. These albums, with Thelonious Monk, Milt Jackson, Art Blakey, Jimmy Smith and many under his own name, are currently among the most played in jazz dance clubs. Donaldson’s blues infused playing has essentially remained the same, which makes his concerts like time travelling experiences.
