With a granite and confronting precise percussive sound the group LOOS (founded in 1982 by Peter J.A. van Bergen) developed into one of the most prominent international avant-garde groups. After projects with Jin Hi Kim (Korea) in 1992, Muhammed Fuad Aid (Sudan) en Wria Shekany (Armenia) in 1998, and Atsuhiro Ito (Japan) in 2001, the group presents now ‘LOOS plays the Magreb’ with the famous French-Algerian musicians Camel Zekri and Mohamed Beldjoudi, in which North African rhythms, melodies and structures connect with van Bergen’s percussive, harmonic views.
