How musical is Amsterdam’s Central Station?

Fragments
of a telephone conversation sing a duet with the soft hum of an
escalator. Hurried footsteps, a whistle, and a muffled public address
announcement are transformed into a sweet song suddenly drowned out by
the roar of roller suitcases.

In its latest concert series –
Loop-Copy-Mutate: Music from People and Places – the Genetic Choir turns
the station’s sounds into a choral performance. Underground, in the yet
unfinished North-South Line metro station, the choir takes these sounds
and – together with laptop musician Robert van Heumen and programmer
Stelios Manousakis – uses them for an instant composition concert: Music
as vital and unpredictable as the city itself.

holders please check in at the reception of Noord/Zuidlijn, to the
right (east) of the main entrance of Amsterdam Central Station (address:
Stationsplein 7)

Please note: Make sure you arrive on time! After starting time, access to the concert is no longer possible. No refund can be granted.
The underground metro station is currently
still a building site with safety restrictions, and participants will
need to be good walkers. It might be chilly at the site, so it is
advised to bring warm clothing.

There are four North-South Line concerts (underground): 2 July 2017: At 1pm / 3pm / 7pm / 9pm
