LIZZ WRIGHT

What a difference a day makes. On July 11, 2002, Lizz Wright was just another unknown singer on the program of a Billy Holiday tribute concert at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall. Twenty-four hours later, a new star is born. With her subtle mixture of soul, gospel, blues and jazz , she also made a great impression at the North Sea Jazz Festival of this year. Slender and dark-eyed, with a radiant sense of self-confidence she soulfully sings the songs of her convincing debut album; ‘Salt’. Wrights’ album may have come out on a jazz label (Verve) but you can place her in the same line with neo-soul singers like Angie Stone, Erikah Badu and Jill Scott. ‘Lizz Wright touches people in very emotional places with her music. What more can any artist or audience member want? I am a huge fan of Lizz Wright’ (John Clayton).
